A day in the life-

I thought it might be a fun little project for me to do a "day in the life" post each month. As I think back to February, January, December...each month was just so different. This is probably mostly in part to Sadie changing so much each month, and so my days have looked so different too.

Half of Sadie's first year is almost over- which is crazy! So this could be a fun way to make a little time capsule for each month, for the rest of her baby-life.

So, Sadie changes a lot of course, but my days really haven't been too hard since adding her into our life. I am up with her about twice each night since she was born- but that is not really that difficult for me, because she's still in our room right now, and I just pull her into bed with me to nurse. I'm a bit tired during the day of course, but it truly hasn't been too bad. Everyone asks, "So, how is with two?"/ And I have been able to say that it really has been easy and fun, honestly! I've always wanted to be a mom at home, and I have felt like I'm living my dream I have felt like my arms of full of blessings- just enjoying Emmy and Sadie, and having cozy days at home, for the most part....

But- lately, things have been changing in my answer to the "How is it with 2?" question. It was such a small thing, and I didn't realize how much I countered on it! A very important part of my day. Emmy has ,officially it seems, dropped her nap! She went through phases here and there where she wouldn't nap. But, we are about 3 weeks into this, and I feel like it's time to accept it! ;}Emmy is done with napping.

The thing that is the most life-changing (sorry, dramatic! hehe,) for me- is that I was in a good rhythm with getting lots of things done during that 3-4 hour block in my day! If I was tired, I knew I could press through till after lunch to take a nap. If I didn't get to exercise in the morning, I would use part of that chunk of time for exercising. We make most of our food from scratch, so I would get messy things in the kitchen done that wouldn't go as well with Emmy wanting to help. I would try not to get online until this part of the day. This was my main time to shower(!), and most of all to just do things that I enjoy- you know, time to myself,  time to rest on the couch and watch a Netflik or something;) (Oh and clean the house! )

Before, I'd make a to-do list each morning, and know I'd get it all or most done at nap-time. Now, I make my list, and have no idea when I can fit these things in! Cleaning, exercising, email, rest, hobbies,reading-who has time for these things?....Hehe, I am being a little dramatic- but this is kind of helpful for me to write it out.

So, now that the  (of this part of my day going away) has subsided, hehe,  I am on a mission to figure out a new rhythm for our life. The past couple weeks have felt like I'm being initiated into real motherhood;) (I was pretty spoiled before!) but I'm starting to get a feel for things. And I'm seeing how God is truly just helping me in practical ways and He's going to use this for good., to stretch me and help me to grow in the areas He wants me to grow in.

So, we'll see;) Another reason for these daily life posts to come- it will be fun to see how our days find their new rhythm, one month at a time.

I've spent so much time writing this intro to A Day in the Life, that i'll wait till tomorrow to post about our  actual day.

Thanks for reading and being a part of our life;)

As quickly mentioned in our last post in forever, Sadie is a little over 4 and a half months old now, and she has become very interactive in the last month. So fun to watch as she is playing with the little toys around her saucer, and little toys spread out on her play blanket.

To me, this is when things start to get really sweet! Once babies seem to really recognize and get excited about the people in their lives. She reaches out to touch my face,-or Bron's or Emmy's- it melts my heart!...it is just so dear.

One of the sweetest things to see is how she is starting to get excited to "play" with her sister. Of course, Emmy is fully ready to embrace Sadie as a playmate.

Oh yeah...we have a blog!

Well, A lot has happened since I last wrote. That was April...and now it is February! You could say we have a completely different life since then actually! So, here is quick summary/list of excuses as to why we've been too busy to post on here:

1.We moved! That was a long story that began right around the time I stopped writing on here...which I'll spare you all the details- because if you are the kind of friend who reads our blog, you probably know the story;) Anyway, we are so thankful for this new home God provided for us! I still am pinching myself.
2. I was hugely pregnant with a baby girl. In this picture, I had 3 more months to go. But I like to pretend this is the size I stopped at;) And that is our cute little front porch! which I am dreaming of getting use out of again hopefully soon as Spring comes our way.
3. Emmylou turned 2! Now she is 2 and half, going on 16, as we like to say. If you have spent any time with her, you understand.
& I am often finding her around the house deep in elaborate imaginative play, such as shown above. She is such fun.

4. My sister Dot moved in with us for the school year! She is the "artist in residence" at Millersville University nearby. I love having my sister here.
5. The biggest change of them all is, of course, Sadie Joan joining our family! She was born in our new home, on October 13th, and she weighed one ounce away from 9 pounds(!) ,She is the most pleasant and happy baby ever.
She just turned 4 months old this month! She is just getting to the point where she is really interacting with us and reaching out and trying to play with things. We are so excited for Spring and Summer ahead in our new home with our little family.

Ok, so we are back! & Hoping to post on here once or twice a week :) That's my goal.

See you soon!
With love,
-Liz

It has been awhile since I wrote - over a month!- ... and LOTS has been going on in the past month, including two stomach viruses in our home- the worst one skipped by Emmy, thank the Lord, ...and most importantly, a pregnancy! We kept it a secret for the most part, and are happy to be able to share now- that I am a little over 15 weeks pregnant- which is a blessing, both the pregnancy and the fact that I am now in my second trimester:) We really are so excited. Emmy exclaims "sister!" whenever the baby is mentioned. And lately, she points to her belly and says "Emmy's baby."

A big change in the last month since I've written, is that Emmy has really been exploding with language. She started with a couple two or three word sentences like "See my Daddy!" or "Drink please," but now it is just too much to keep track of.

A very cute thing lately is that she is able to finish lines in her books that I read to her. At first I noticed it in books that we've been reading to her often since she was a year old or so. Then, I wondered if she had caught on to any of the words in more recent additions to her library- and much to our surprise, she knows so many words in books that we've only had for a little while

Here is a little video of her helping me to read her Easter board book. So fun and so special to hear her say these words that she doesn't quite understand, but of course hold so much meaning to us! Unfortunately, I couldn't capture her saying "Jer-ooo-salem", which is the cutest word in the book to hear her say:)

Emmy's Nest.

For the past few months, Emmy has been really into her "nest". Actually, nest was one of her first words,! It is the little window nook in her bedroom, where I made her a little bed of blankets and pillows. After her bath, and pajamas, she soon proclaims "nest!" and grabs an armful of books for me to read to her. It has actually been a blessing that developed after I stopped nursing her, a little bedtime routine that she can count on and enjoy.
Fun fact- this picture is actually a little outdated, a month or 2 ago, -because Emmy now associates her pacifier only with her crib- yay!- naps and bedtimes only. Once we are done reading books, she declares "Paci!", which I give her, then "Jesus." who we sing about in the rocking chair. and if she is still awake, "Pray?" before I put her down in her crib. The joy of routines that work:)
(A little less cute of a routine in the last couple months, has been Emmy's funny habit of waking at 3:30am almost every night, and when I go in she tells me she would like to be put in her nest. It is sort of strange, but she falls asleep in a few minutes, and spends the rest of her night here. Thankfully this is getting :a little: less regular,! hehe.)

All this to say, that this weekend we are actually going to be saying goodbye to the nest, and switching our bedrooms. Bron and I have the big front room, and Emmy has this little green room. Emmy's toys and books are kind of taking over our house, so we are going to give her the big room and make it into a playroom too.

Someday I hope to paint over the green, but I suppose that can wait a couple months. :)

Sort-of Spring !

So excited about the temperatures this week, reaching into the 50s and 60s!
Took the opportunity to switch out our wreath, and to purchase our home's ::first ever:: Welcome mat. :)
Emmy was so excited to get to play outside, (She asked for "Hope!" on the bumpy parts of the sidewalk)..
and of course to shout out her friendly greetings to anyone who would listen, even the skateboarding teenagers, hehe.
(I love her little shadow.)

 -
Winter, you were fun but you were way too long! We trust God for you, but we are glad you are leaving our lives soon.

^& I must admit, she did not get out to play in every snow storm. After awhile, it just got to be too much! Not sure I'll be able to get away with that next winter:) But we will definitely be getting out for every warm Springy day that comes our way.

( Thank you Lord for changing seasons! And how everything seems more joyful and magical, imagining it through the eyes of a little one. )

If you didn't know...

Emmylou is sort of a ham :)
(and she thinks everyone is her best friend!)
especially when she is in her own environment...
^This cute little guy stayed with us for a couple hours the other day, while his mom went to a midwife appointment. And Emmy just showered him with love. He was a good sport! But I had to say "No more hugs!" a few times, for his sake.

Lately, when we see kids at the store (or out our front window), Emmy says "Friends?" very sweetly, and I tell her that yes they are her friends. When we talk about going to Mops or to caregroup or to church, Emmy says "Kids! Friends!" She has quite a few names she can list of all her favorite friends. (And I have to be very careful if there's a baby in the room, because Emmy will be on a mission to snuggle the baby.)

She also tells me she wants her "Coat!" often these days. But it's just so cold! We're all ready for Spring. There's so much to look forward with Emmy in the warmer weather!

It is so fun as she is learning to talk, and learning to understand the world around her more and more. I feel like I have this fun little companion with me all day. We talk about friends and family, farm animals and food, and babies and even Jesus, all day long:)
